In case you are wondering about the "YES WE HAVE", FOCUS YOUR ATTENTION on "BLACK WALL STREET". A Tulsa, Oklahoma community of African Americans in the early 1900's proved this fact to be true. A population of 15,000 Blacks owned 2 high schools, 1 hospital, 2 newspapers, 2 theaters, 3 drug stores, 4 hotels, 21 resturants, 30 grocery stores, 21 churches, a post office, a public library, a bank, medical schools, 6 private planes, a bus line, pawn shops, and over 150 two and three story brick commerical buildings that housed clothing and grocery stores, cafes, rooming houses, nightclubs, offices of professionals such as doctors, lawyers, and dentists. A doctor named, Dr. Berry averaged a daily income of $500. The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times before it left the Black community, sometimes taking an entire year. Now the dollar leaves the Black community immediately!

The "Black Wall Street" community consisted of Greenwood, Archer, and Pine Streets encompassing over 36 blocks of over 600 businesses. The famous rap group, the GAP BAND, came from this section of town. They named the group after the streets that produced some of the wealthest African Americans during that era. Black Wall Street, theme named after the Wall Street district in New York, was a monument to behold before it was burnt down and destroyed by envey and jeolousy from without. It would have been a Black Mecca territory by now probably covering several states. We GIVE THANKS to The Spirit of Havinah for pointing out these amazing facts that existed in the 1920's. This is what people working in love and harmony can and will do again...YES WE HAVE, YES WE CAN, YES WE WILL!!!!

Our young men and women must be shown the three videos I posted and the many others that are on youtube; the rest of the story should be further researched as you have done. Schools should assign it as a project in American History, Political Science, Economics, and Black American History! Everyone knows and periodically main stream media eludes to the riots blamed on Jamil Al Amin aka Rap Brown and Stokely but never the story of Greenwood - Tulsa. Peace, Power & Blessings. I just added a blog on the Green Jobs Grant money. Our people need to get on this now and make sure the inner city residents are not left out!

I was stationed in Okla. back in the Sixties. the first all Black field artillery in US Army It was then I was aware of the black wall street, what was accomplished back then was amazing.

Greetings my People

I never heard about Black Wal Street before, now I'm aware of it.
What I want to add is that NOW IS THE RIGHT TIME TO BUILD IT AGAIN.
We won the political battle with Brother Barack Obama as the first Black President of USA.
But economic power is the strongest, so we must keep on fighting for till the victory.
In Africa, we also won the political battle, but since Europeans who colonised us before are the one making & printing our money (for the main part of African countries), it's clear that we are not independant as we supposed to be.
Now Black Wall Street, should be the first step before joining what I can call American Wall Street. Don't forget that if you're African Americans, White People are European Americans. Native American are Cherokees, & all those we call Indians or Red skins in Europe.
Anyway all of you are citizens of the same One Nation. So the fight must give you the place you deserve in USA economy. You must live, not survive !!!!

Greetings Sista Havinah, 

My intuition/spirit has just directed me to your blog...Wow!!!

I've been both consciously and spiritually looking for you for over 20 years, a Black women with an historic economic  consciousness, and at the right inflection point in our awakening...What you have researched and written, truly lays out a foundation for our ancestors to breath an economic spirit into the dry bones/minds of the many that are merely existing in our urban communities today.

And far to many unjust labels are put on the backs of our children, who are lost, miss-educated/guided and disconnected from who they really are or can be...Yet, they are the seeds of Black Wall Street, Rose Wood, Allensworth, and over 500 successful Black communities built between 1866 - 1930.

I'm aware of some of the documentaries on Black Wall Street, Rose Wood, Allensworth and others...Additionally, my dad recently completed a documentary call "Passing the Torch", it gives the viewer a ground level intimate perspective on the relationship between our senior thought leaders and our youth of that day...You'll witness their collective power, that brought about the civil rights bill/ legislation signed into law in 1964...

You may not remember, but prior to that legislation passage, the NAACP had lobbied Congress for over 30 plus years, just to have Congress pass a law, to simply make it illegal for White Folk to hanging Black Folk...30 years!!!  Sorry for going there...

I'm saying all this to simply say...Yes my Sista, we (Global Business Incubation-GBI) have, focused our time/resources and attention to creating the 21st Century, Virtual Black Wall Street and Virtual Madison Avenue...Yes we can, taking the collective thinking of our ancestors, from 1888 and evolving it into the year 2020, and presenting that future vision/ blueprint, on film in 2011...Yes we will,  play a strategic part in ushering in a new paradigm of collective/connective/cooperatively owned urban community economic prosperity...partnering with Global communities for a better World!
