Magazine COVER: PREACHERS or PIMPS: Does the Black Church Need an Upgrade?

The Black Church has maintained the posture as being the spiritual voice for the people. It has been the champion and trailblazer for change since the days of slavery. Our great Leaders the late Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. and Malcom X came through the Black Church although they were not the same religion. The Black community today have even greater challenges than in the 60's. Homelessness, Disease, Drug Abuse, Epidemic Imprisonment, Youth Indecent Dressing, Black on Black Crime and the Lack of Black on Black Spending are situations which have grown much worse and continues to plague our communities.

The question is: With all of this social, health and economic work that we are facing, should more of the prosperity message convert over to the congregation rather than just the Preacher? And should Churches open their doors as relief centers since so many people need relief these days everyday? Are the Churches of today failing the people or would an Upgrade fix the problem with our Churches? What do you think... please share your opinion and/or great examples of any Church you know that have made the Upgrade already...

Greetings all I don't if I would call them pimps back in the day pimps did something for their communities with out you giving them money. You give and you give and when its time for your church to help the answer is no. Yes you are suppose to give * because the Bible say ,if you don;t have a job and you give what you can God is not going to punish you like man.People keep in mind everything in the Bible is not for today because you do not kill a bullock or a calf today and so on.
I was a member of a church for five years and the pastor stole from me(. PIANTINGS) the phone would be disconnected at times, the bathrooms would not work, no heat . I could go on,I heard the voice of Jehovah so
clear I will not go back. Its a shame with hati the stars gave a benefit and not the TV MINISTERS they have planes and boats when the congrations suffer for the most part.Its god to give just becareful who you give to.
Give to Ceasar what is Ceasr Give to God what is Gods. All of my mistakes is love.

Yes they should open there doors. Let me tell you I've seen a lot of mess when it comes to churches and those church folk. Yes I said those church folk. Why else are we here. To do the work of the Lord. Does he not feed the hungry does he not cloth and touch the ones who are in need. I have seen selfish folk taking a lot of the food home for themselves. Won't serve someone because he smells or is dirty. If he is hungry feed him if he needs a place to bathe then give it to him. If he is mental then get him help. Drugs prostitution it does not matter find a way. You are there to minister to make them feel a little decent because they are so use to being treated bad everywhere else. A upgrade for the church and the pastors that are out for themselves living on the so called top of the mountain with lavish homes and anything you could ask for saying it was a gift. Well turn that gift over and get the cash for it and do what you are suppose to do. Our black communities should not be having it as hard as they are with a church on every corner. They should know you are there for them. Your church should be full of members because they come back when they are well and living better. All because you were there. Some have at least four to five churches in there area and it would be the last place they go. Why because those so called church folk are turning up there noses and talking bad about you and making you feel that asking for anything is not worth it.

Thanks to all so far for your comments and queations. I see people go to Church every sunday and complain about what is going on but never speak up or do anything but complain to each other. IS THIS SOME TYPE OF LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP?. Do we keep going back because we think God is there? I personally don't attend Church or Mosque but I would it I could find ONE that is serving the needs of today's people. Don't tell me about Jesus OR Muhammad... SHOW ME! I am hopeful that someone will report of some Black Church somewhere in the world that SERVES THE REAL NEEDS OF TODAY'S PEOPLE.

To Be Honest,in the days we are living. THIS EARTH CAN USE AN UPGRADE!!!
5 years ago, I went to a special celebration at my mom church, 100 women in white. The smiles were all so joyful, and to see a variety of women, all ages shapes and sizes in white, all together was AWESOME!!!
This Joyful Delight put an extra step in my heart. As we were coming to closing, a women maybe in her nineties, held my hand and said baby always remember, "WE ARE THE CHURCH". I heard those words many times before, but this time. I HEARD THEM LOUD AND CLEAR. I would like to share a few pastors with you, and listen in their words, DO WE NEED AN UPGRADE IN THE BLACK CHURCH?

3. BUILDING FUND
4. THEY ARE ALSO SAYING NOTHING LESS THAN A 20 DOLLAR BILL

IT HAS BEEN RECORDED THAT SOME HAS SAID
PUT YOUR MORTGAGE MONEY IN THE BASKET
AND IT WILL COME BACK TO YOU TEN FOLD (JUST TRUST GOD)

AND PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR HOMES.
