Michael Vick stated that he did work as hard as he could have worked, He did not study film. He did not learn his craft. What he did not say, but is obvious is that he relied on his natural athletic ability to be a success.
Vick had a 100 million dollar contract. One hundred million dollars!
I watched Michael Vick closely during his career. I compared his behavior during games to Payton Manning’s behavior. I noticed Payton Manning looking at Game Photographs when he was on the sidelines. I never noticed Michael Vick looking at Game Photographs.
I see on the news that Minority Athletes often have an entourage of the high school friends. I also notice which athletes get the big endorsement contracts. I take note that those with gold teeth, tattoos, and deadlocks do not get the contracts. Take note that those athletes who do get contracts make more money advertising products than they make in their respective sports.
Note that George Foreman makes more money selling grills that he made boxing. Note also that he did not invent the George Foreman Grill.
So What?
What is the ACTION STEP?
ACTION STEP:
The message for all athletes is
LEARN THE SYSTEM. BE SMART. WORK THE SYSTEM..
Sport careers are limited. 40 years old is very old for every sport, including Golf.
Sports is a business.
LEARN THE BUSINESS OF SPORTS.
THE GAME IS ABOUT MONEY.
MAKE THE MONEY
INVEST THE MONEY
LEAVE THE WOMEN ALONE UNTIL AFTER THE MONEY IS MADE (IE TIGER WOODS)
STAY OUT OF STRIP CLUBS.
MOST IMPORTANTLY
LEARN FROM THE MISTAKES OF OTHERS
