Graduation at Florida A&M University 2010

I attended my first Florida A&M University graduation.

My journey only took several hours, the accomplishments

of Darryl "TopShelf" McClenton his journey started after

graduation from Raines High School in Jacksonville, Florida.

I should correct myself the journey is not just his, but his

family that supported him to matriculation. His mother

Cheryl laboured, not just worked, but laboured to see her

sons graduate college and put…

THE TRUTH ABOUT YOUTH

For far too long we have accepted and nourished a culture that systematically devalues the importance of our children reaching their

maximal development.

A culture that pretends to believe that our Nation's children will

fulfill their potential in dilapidated, unsafe schools with out dated

curriculums and equipment. A culture that designed the minds, the ideas

and the motives of two Pennsylvania Court Judges, Mark A.…

Hidden Holocaust, USA

“I’ve had grown men wet this floor with tears, begging for a job. We have to pray with some to keep them from killing themselves. So many say they just want to die,” says Charlie Tarrance, a director of a private social agency. His task is to deal with growing lines of despairing people looking for jobs, housing, and food. The place is Gadsden, Alabama, but it could be anywhere in the United…

To Black America: we are one

In a series of articles I have written, I focused on the intolerance perpetrated by U.S. blacks toward other U.S. blacks. But the subject of this article has gone around in my mind like bits of fabric loosely sewn together with threads of memory and heartache. So rather than continue my own tirade regarding black intolerance, I decided to flip the script and discuss another valid point. Instead of focusing on the pieces, why not reflect on the whole?

Research for this project…

Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen, I am Honored to be here today and to represent our esteemed class of men who refuse to be morally complacent. Men whom demand positive growth.

One of the ways I like to describe my mind is a wall-less room with an endless supply of blank canvases, for the artists within our…

I was a Juvenile Defendant

In one of my most significant dreams, I shed my human Characteristics, I take the form of a light, a bright mobile soaring light, that is, I take the form of my soul...unadulterated.

[I am hovering in what must be a part of space, for the darkness is absolute, and I am instinctively and patiently waiting, for what? I am unsure. Then instantly lights resembling my own start to appear, thousands and thousands at first but by the time they stop coming there is no question that hundreds of…

A Simple Truth

I shall share with you an element of truth in one of it's most simplistic forms. It is a new discovery, it's not an invention that man can stake a claim to, nor is it a principle taught by a religious teacher or spiritual guide. It is a truth that is essential to the genetic structure of every human being. It is as much a part of human history as molecules are a part of the water that sustains us.

The simple truth is that each one of us is unique! And it is our uniqueness that prevents…

Time for Change

There are far too many children around the world whom, for reasons not their own, have minds and perspectives that have been invaded by the disease of despair, of anger, of hopelessness and depression. Children without the natural inclination to guide themselves out of the minefields of adolescence, children who if guided properly would of been future doctors and heads of state, but instead have made a series of bad decisions and caused harm to victims, community and themselves, our worlds…

In the Darkness

In the darkness my soul was summoned, yanked from it's cage and freed by it's transformation back into a soaring bright white light, a light reminiscent of the fallen star that granted my adolescent wish.

My soul was being pulled by an unrelenting force, I was compelled to maintain a specific course as I soared through the night sky. I could not move with autonomy, I was powerless, I had no choice but to submit to this overwhelming force.

I traveled at a very fast speed, about ten…

FROM LOST BOYS TO FOUND MEN

There's a population of prisoners within the United States prison apparatus that were waived from the Juvenile court system into an adult system and given lengthy prison sentences. These men have been incarcerated for the past 10-15yrs, and for a lot of them they have another 10-15yrs to complete before they are even eligible for parole. This specific population of prisoners have successfully transformed from lost boys to found men despite the… Continue

"WE MUST UNITE AGAINST THE LAWS THAT ARE DISREGARDING OUR CHILDREN"!!!

Judicial oppression and irresponsibility have compelled me to withstand the pressure and force with a wide variety of experiences, experiences that a just society wouldn't compel a child to endure. Experiences that traversed through the cities of despair, hopelessness and loneliness, experiences that have relentlessly made competent attempts at trying to break, corrupt and destroy me.

Though for the grace of God my family has stood firm by my side for the last almost 15 years, for their… Continue
