The power of influence

There are certain strengths or abilities that human beings possess. The most well-known or discussed is the power of love. But recently we are seeing the negative results of another power that is becoming more infamous in everyday life. That power is influence.

Influence is the ability to manipulate another person or persons into doing or carrying out one’s desires. These desires may be positive or negative. For example, you may want someone to attend an event with you, so you provide…

The intolerant mind

What happens to a person to make them become intolerant? The question is asked because I refuse to believe that people are born with hatred for others just based on their race, their beliefs, or their preferences. History has shown that when children are placed in homes different from those of their birth parents, they can take on the characteristics of their caretakers or substitute parents. If not being born closed-minded is the case, then how is it that people can become prejudiced or…

Living in America

As I have never left the U.S., my impression of life in other countries is very limited when it comes to their lifestyles. But having lived in America for nearly 68 years, I have a pretty good take on life here. Not only do I have time as a consideration, but experience, observation and being female, black and low income gives me a familiar perspective with millions of others. These characteristics gives both men and women like me a perception that is perhaps quite different from the one…

Worthy of compassion

From a very young age I didn’t think I was different, but I did feel set apart. There seemed to be some familial dissimilarity between me and my siblings who are an older sister and brother and a younger sister, born 4 years later on my birthday. Even with our shared birthdays, there still seemed to be a block between us.

I spent most of my inquisitive time with my father because my mother seemed to find fault with everything I did or said, including the dissenting mumblings under my…

Can’t Wait on Superman for our Schools

Can’t Wait on Superman for our Schools

I had the opportunity to view the documentary

“Waiting for Superman” and wanted to view without

all the previous verbiages, good, bad or

indifferent so I can base on my own judgment.

The documentary “Waiting for Superman” displayed

several key points that showed validity in concerns

for public education. There are challenges; lack of

equitable funding, instructional competency of teachers,

limited…

2ND Look Legislation

The Juvenile Justice in the US is certainly in dire need of America's focus and undidvided attention. For far too long many children are being led into the adult court system and discarded into the adult prison system unecessarily.

So I commend and applaud your efforts to bring a degree of responsability to the Juvenile Justice Laws in the State of Wisconsin.

Though I think it's important that America's focus and attention also includes the teenagers that were waived and…
