You know I really can't believe what is happening here. It's not just here but I feel the same way about my forum and a lot of others.

I feel it is a shame that in a year where our next president could be a man of color we have become what I feel as lazy, lazy, L A Z Y.

We have a couple people that I would like to give a pat on the back. That is few and far between.

As a young man, I was told that it was my duty to read the news paper every day to keep up with the current events. That was considered a means of getting the edge Maybe the old folks where wrong, they meant I should advertise in a newspaper everyday and ignore the information in front of me.

Also I was told that if you didn't what Black people to know what was happening just
write it down. Why? Because Black people don't read. (Hmmmmmmmm)

Also I have been told that if you want change you have to complain and/or talk about it
enough to get something done. Maybe that why I like driving in white nieghborhoods. It is so rare to hit a pot hole there.

I look at all the folks on this site and I wonder what is going on????? No opinions, no comments, no thoughts. The only information I see passed is by the same people over and over again. Now the one thing I do see is loads of advertisements. I mean loads of advertisements........we are talking a lot of meanless advertisements that don't even tell you what your products is about. Just send me your money and look like Tyra Banks.

I can understand that all of us don't have the time to spend the hours I spend on the computer. I realize that some people have issues with speaking up. I understand that
some of us don't have the skills and that makes you uncomfortable. But if Brother Hassan offered free tickets to a concert you would figure out a way to overcome all these issues and get that ticket. If someone tells you to copy and paste an advertisement and you will get rich you will dive in that hole.

I hate to sound like I am upset, life will find a way. I just feel that this tool called internet is the greatest thing to happen to us in my 50 plus years on this earth and we chose to let it past us by.

Now I have said what is on my mind and I am sticking with it. So, don't just sit there, that is for those of you that have been able to read this far, and nod your head. Tell me what you think about it. Even if it no more that Amen. That is fewer key strokes than it takes to get on that dating site

Mr Calloway I respect what you have to say but I have to diagree with it. I can see that you are a proud man and don't like the way I threw that ball. But let's take a real good look at this discussion.
That was just a brush back ball I should aim more for the head.

How many new people commented on the discussion? These are the same faces that regularly speak out in this forum.

For to long we have acted as if he are afraid to tell each other what we think. There was a time when Black people where hard on themselves. We strived for perfection. Now "It's OK" is the pharse of the day. It's not ok, not on my team.

I also understand the sterotype mode I caused. I hate that with a passion also. So why didn't 10 more people stand up and say something about it. Because 10 more people didn't read it. Also, it's not about what we think of ourselves,
it's how we carry ourselves. I believe the the chain is only as strong as it weakest link. From what I see we should all be mad at the weakness that we are we are showing.

We have as Black men stepped back and allow our women to raise our men children, so now comes a confusion. These women did nothing wrong. They did the best they could with what we gave they to work with. Now, instead of being taken back, that the young man was reading you should have asked him to read Native Son and handed him one. I never bought a book until I went to college. Read gangs of them. The men in my nieghborhood gave me some the greatest books a young black man could read. Also they impressed on mr the importance of read the news paper.

Please Mr Calloway don't let such a small event take away from the meat of this discussion. They say white men can't jump. Then how did a white man win the dunk contest in basketball. There is always one.
Some are avid readers, and some aren't: Black People Read. I'm certain there are many Black people reading something as we're reading this forum.
Unity and wealth unto you my brother
I have one question.
How many of the readers you know, know how and are willing to help our race become united and self-sufficient enough to overcome the slave masters system's status quo?
When the things you read prevent you from understanding who you really are and your true duty, you becomes our worst enemy.
If your conversations and actions only maintain the status quo and you don't care, God help you.
How many people are reading this forum and how many are commenting on this forum probably are different amounts. Not everyone reading feels the need to comment.

Bro Dwight that is my point exactly. We might be able to read, and that is questionable, but can we read, comprehend what is bring said and make an intelligent comment.
In my forum I see where people come to it and view. It's like the pothole example I gave earlier. As long as people can drive around that pothole they don't complain. That is a bad attitude and I know you know that. Once that hole gets big enough to damage your car it's to late to complain.
Now we need to stop making excuses for the laziness and get back to building our nation. How can you be so certain JC? You are judging people by your values. That is a dangerous move along with a dangerous attitude. This whatever attitude is causing a 40% dropout rate in Jacksonville. In Indy I read they only have a 17% graduation rate. If you are sure Black people are reading, what are they reading?
High Times Magazine? Ice Berg Slim? Batman?
It is time for us to step up as men of a powerful race, in a powerful country and teach our people how to make progress into the 21st century and beyond.
I am sorry if I am sounding harsh but it is what is.
We need to read, understand what we have read and make a comment the clear up any misunderstanding. Even if you just come and say Amen
Stop making excuses please.
(Smile)..."but can we read, comprehend what is being said and make an intelligent comment?"...My answer is yes...LOL Have a great day Clyde.
I'm going by what Black people I'm I suppose to be disappointed with that don't read. Elementary, Middle and High School students? College Students? Professionals? Elders? What's the percentage of Black People that don't read? Is the17% graduation rate in Indy because Blacks don't read? Isn't reading Ice Berg Slim reading?
How many of the readers you know, know how and are willing to help our race become united and self-sufficient enough to overcome the slave masters system's status quo?

Had to really think about this one. Over a period of time at least 100 give or take. But we could be getting into another area as far becoming united and self-sufficient; as it relates to to being disappointed that Black people don't read. Not everyone's true duty is to overcome the status quo. However, reading will definitely assist in helping others who pursue overcoming the status quo.
I say right on to that Bro. LL.
Reading is more than BOOKS & LITERARY THINGS. The point that LL is making is that it really would not matter (how much or how little you read) as-long-as there is no action or responsibility commitment toward self sufficiency from that reading.
JC I fail to see what you are trying to accomplish with these vauge and almost childish responses. I do give credit to comic books as a means of starting my reading as a young chap. But I can't give them credit for my ACT scores.
I feel that this mentality that you are using is what is causing a lot of the confusion among our people. If black people would once again reach status quo it would be a step in the fight direction.
If you will return to my statement, I mentioned that we need to stay up with the current events. Ice Berg Slim was only entertaining. It failed to prepare me for the issues we are facing today. Actually it could be regarded as a part of the issues we face today.
Clyde, the only problem I have with this discussion is that it's presented in a broad manner. You state that you're Disappointed that "Black People Really Don't Read." You are basing this strictly from a subjective mentality, an assumption, and somewhat condescending. You haven't provided any proof in your discussion demonstrating that Blacks don't read newspapers, magazines, or stay up with current events. How vague is that? So I conclude that you are creating as much confusion ~ as I am ~ if you refuse to show data, or some type of concrete evidence which PROVES what you have stated as truth. In my opinion, we can't continue to make broad stereo-typical, and demeaning comments about each other, without sufficient evidence proving it as true. All that said, I do agree with your comment in regards to strengthening the weakest links. I will not continue to write comments in this discussion, but will READ what you and others write.
Peace
