THE NEW YEAR AND YOU: LET'S WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
By Hassan Artiste Raheem

Let the Horns Blow and the Drums Beat. Let the Singers and Dances come forth and Let us all rejoice in knowing that we all showed up for this appointed time called 2012.

January 1st is the day of the Gregorian calendar year. It's a public holiday in the U.S.A. and MANY OTHER COUNTRIES. It is also know as Freedom Day celebrated by many African Americans as the day Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation which so-called freed the slaves.

Traditionally the New Year is observed as the time when people attempt to add new meaning to their lives and they decide which things they will change or improve on for the coming year. Celebrated by most English-speaking countries since the British Calendar Act of 1751. Before that time, the New Year was observed on March 25th approximately the time of the vernal equinox.

On January 1, the Earth begins another orbit of the Sun, during which it will travel 583,416,000 miles in 365.2422 days.

January 1st in some countries is considered "Everyone's Birthday" because everyone is a year older.

The WACPtv Community was first established April 27, 2008. During 2011, we started to move in the direction of calling the community by the official name...
